Rules we build for
Ontario businesses and non-profits with 50 or more employees must make public websites meet WCAG 2.0 Level AA, apart from live captions and pre-recorded audio descriptions. Building to WCAG 2.1 AA covers that requirement and more.
Ontario has no general private-sector privacy law of its own, so PIPEDA applies to most businesses here: meaningful consent, a clear privacy policy and breach reporting when there’s a real risk of significant harm. Health information held by custodians falls under Ontario’s PHIPA.
Ontario charges 13% HST on most sales. Orders shipped to other provinces take that province’s rate, so your Shopify or WooCommerce tax settings need to follow the customer’s delivery address, not yours.
Commercial email and texts need consent, clear sender identification and an unsubscribe that works. We set up sign-up forms in Mailchimp or HubSpot that record when and how each person opted in.
