Rules we build for
Ontario’s AODA requires WCAG 2.0 AA public websites from organizations with 50 or more employees. Federal departments and federally regulated sectors follow the Accessible Canada Act, and suppliers may be asked to meet similar standards in their contracts.
Federal institutions must serve the public in English and French, and that extends to their websites. If you sell to government, or to customers across the river in Gatineau, plan a full French version; Québec’s French-language rules apply on that side.
PIPEDA covers personal information collected by Ottawa businesses, and CASL covers commercial email and texts. Together they mean clear consent, a readable privacy policy and an unsubscribe that works.
Ontario sales carry 13% HST, while orders delivered to Gatineau take 5% GST plus 9.975% QST. Your store needs to calculate tax from the delivery address, which matters in a city that sits on a provincial border.
